The Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has announced that the results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on December 29.
This decision aims to provide more time for the completion of the marking process while helping WAEC manage its financial resources effectively.
Dr. Adutwum’s statement comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure smooth operations within the education sector.
The move is expected to ease some of the financial pressures faced by WAEC, enabling the council to focus on its core task of marking and compiling results.
This decision follows the Ministry of Education’s recent release of an additional GH₵25 million to WAEC, which is intended to bolster the organisation’s operational budget and enhance the overall efficiency of its work
Dr. Adutwum revealed that WAEC has already completed 50 percent of the objective marking, and he reassured the public that the results will be released as scheduled by the end of January.
The Education Minister also confirmed that the results are on track to be ready by the target date, with a provisional release on December 28 or 29, 2024, ahead of the final publication.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, December 24, Dr. Adutwum expressed confidence that the measures put in place would help maintain the integrity of the examination process.
“I came to apprise myself of developments in terms of the fact that they are working now through the holidays to get the results out on or before 29th of this month. So I came and saw the workers working and currently close to 50% of the objectives have been marked,” he stated.”
