Four persons have died after their vehicle skidded off the road into the Owabi River near Dabaah in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.
The accident occurred Tuesday, October 29. Search party has been deployed to recover one who has been declared missing. She has been identified as a five-year-old girl, Doreen Yassan.
Bodies of 40-year-old Helena Yassan (Driver), Lordina Yassan- 10 years, Rita Agyare-41 and Boamah Gyasi- 28 were recovered from the trapped car.
The presiding Member of the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of Ashanti Region, Francis Bobie Ansah , who confirmed this to Ghanakoma morning show host, Sir John described the incident as pathetic.
“In all, they are five,” said Bobie Ansah, the presiding member at the Nwabiagya District Assembly. “It is a family of three including the woman driver and her children, a female teacher and a plumber.
“We don’t know what caused the accident, but we got a distress call and rushed to the scene and found the car afloat. We managed to retrieve four bodies but now we are searching for one more victim which is the driver’s youngest child. We have spoken with traditional authorities to perform some rituals to aid our rescue mission. This is a black Tuesday for us,” Bobie stated.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the four victims have been deposited at the Mount Sinai morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Officials from the Ghana National Fire Service, NADMO, Presiding Member, Elders of the Community and some community members among others carried out the rescue mission.
He called on the rescue team from the National Disaster Management Organisation to come to their aid.
