The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church has recently reiterated its decision not to participate in the upcoming elections on December 7, 2024, because it falls on a Saturday which is a Sabbath Day.
Highlife musician, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah reacting to the news, said the decision by the SDA Church not to vote might affect the electoral fortunes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He told Amansan Krakye in an interview “As for the members of the SDA we will plead with them to reconsider their decision not to vote on the 7th of December because it is a Saturday which is a sabbath day.
“Even Jesus Christ whom we all follow healed the sick on a sabbath day so they should try and vote after church service because we are looking at the future of this country and what will move us forward.
“They have the right to say they won’t vote so we plead with them and the constitution has mandated us to vote on the 7th December so if we should vote on Friday or Sunday it’ll also affect some people.
“If you go to church on Saturday and observe your Sabbath after you can cast your ballot and I believe using just one Saturday to vote is not what will go against them,” he argued on Cape Coast’s Property FM
The ‘Kwadonto’ hitmaker, said it’s evident that most of the members of the SDA church are affiliated to the NPP and their decision might not augur well for the party if it’s not rescinded.
“Yes I know that most of the members of the SDA church are NPP so if they don’t vote during the elections it’ll really affect the electoral fortunes of the NPP which might also affect them as well”.
