The government has reached an agreement with the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) on the conditions of service of its members as part of measures to end an ongoing strike.
The industrial action by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) entered its 7th week, as members refused to return to the classrooms in blatant disregard of GTEC’s directive and the subsequent freezing of their July salaries.
The teachers laid down their tools in protest of their poor conditions of service and the government’s failure to implement the arbitral awards given by the National Labor Commission (NLC).
After weeks of negotiations, CETAG said it had reached an agreement with their employers however, government failed to sign the agreement, making the documents null and void.
But in a media interview on Friday, August 2, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, assured that negotiations have been concluded and all agreements signed
“We have concluded the discussions with them. We have actually negotiated and signed on to it. I have signed my portion and all my colleagues who are supposed to sign have signed. In their case, their leadership have also signed. So what is needed is for them to have their national council meeting and also take a decision.”
