The 2022 batch of rotation nurses have not been paid for one year after completing their National Service.
The President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRMA), Perpetual Ofori Ampofo, has described the situation as “painful”.
She has therefore called on the Ministry of Finance to immediately issue clearance for their allowances to be paid.
“It is worth noting that the rotation nurses add to the work we do in the clinical area, in the sense that they add on to the staffing. They bring a lot of expertise on board in terms of what they have been trained for, it is not the best to go through a whole year of internship of rotation or National Service without being paid their due. They should be paid as soon as possible,” she demanded during an interview with 3news on July 30.
“I think I am waiting for a government that will be able to turn this around and let it be in the past. When you qualify, the longest you will have to wait was one month and you are posted to go and do your work with everything fresh on your mind, fresh on your fingertips. So we need to get back there that is the only way we can forestall all the difficulties and challenges that come with the waiting of a professional for a number of years before they will get the job to work,” she lamented.
Meanwhile, the aggrieved rotational nurses and midwives have given government through the Ministry of Health, two weeks to resolve their grievances.
