The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has promised to create a Mining Development Bank if he wins this year’s elections to be president again.
He says this is part of a list of initiatives he will rollout to boost the mining sector of Ghana’s economy.
In a Facebook post after engaging with Chiefs, the youth and stakeholders in the Jirapa, Sissala East and West Constituencies Dr Bawumia noted that although mining activities have taken place for decades in Ghana, the nation has not benefited as much as it should.
At various engagements with Chiefs, the youth and stakeholders in the Jirapa, Sissala East and West Constituencies, I explained my new mining policies, including the establishment of a Mining Development Bank,” he wrote.
He also assured to resource the Geological Survey Department to undertake major exploration.
“I will be ensuring 100% Ghanaian ownership of proven reserves earmarked for small-scale mining, establishment of plant pools in mining areas to promote shared user facilities, decentralizing the mining lincensing regime to all mining districts, and promotion of licenced community mining schemes to create more jobs and wealthy Ghanaians.”
Indeed, he said “it is Possible.”
