Kumasi, Ghana – Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the former Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Asawase, has expressed strong skepticism regarding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) goal of securing over 80% of votes in the Ashanti Region in the upcoming December 2024 elections. Muntaka dismissed this ambitious target as unattainable, citing the NPP’s poor performance in the region.
Speaking to reporters in Kumasi, Muntaka questioned the NPP’s ability to achieve such a high percentage of votes amidst the current socio-economic challenges faced by the region. “With all the struggles that are so glaring, are you going to deny us from voting? Or how are you going to get the 85%? I heard somebody screaming about 85% and I said this guy is coming from some kind of place,” Muntaka remarked.
Muntaka’s comments reflect a broader skepticism about the NPP’s electoral prospects in the Ashanti Region, suggesting that the party’s performance issues will have significant repercussions at the polls. His remarks underscore the contentious and competitive nature of the upcoming elections, as both major parties vie for dominance in one of Ghana’s key regions.
