A tragic incident in Amoawi, a community within the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has led to the alleged poisoning and death of 67-year-old Opanin Augustine Amponsah. The incident reportedly occurred at the shrine of a local fetish priest, Okomfo Amankwaa.
According to Patrick Adusei, the son of the deceased, his father had visited the fetish priest seeking assistance to retrieve a piece of gold.
“My father told us he had a gold elsewhere and wanted the spiritual person to assist him to uproot it. So we went to this Okomfo Amankwaa for help, and he agreed. Later, he gave my father chicken meat and soup to eat,” Adusei recounted in an interview with Akoma News.
Shortly after consuming the food, Opanin Augustine Amponsah began complaining of heart and stomach pains. Within minutes, he tragically passed away at the shrine.
Patrick Adusei immediately alerted the police, who have since taken Okomfo Amankwaa into custody for further interrogation. The family is appealing to the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation. “We are seeking justice for our late father,” Adusei said.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the death of Opanin Augustine Amponsah.
