Former Black Stars defender, Samuel Inkoom has reacted to the phenomenon where football pitches in the country are given out to performers for concerts.
Last year, the conversation on stadium used for concerts became a widespread topic as sports journalists in the country condemned the act.
Their reservations came after the Accra Sports stadium was rented out to Stonebwoy for his show where viral videos show the pitch in a bad state after the event.
Worst of it all was that a premier league match which was supposed to be played on the stadium a day after Stonebwoy’s concert was postponed because the pitch was not in a good condition to host the match.
Reacting to this in an interview on the Day Show with Berla Mundi, Samuel Inkoom mentioned that “in my opinion, football pitch is supposed to be a football pitch.”
“Yeah, I think so,” Inkoom replied when the host, Berla Mundi said football pitches should not be used for musical concerts.
“It is not wrong to give it out to him [Stonebwoy]. I will not say it was wrong,” Inkoom said.
Although the former Black Stars defender is not completely against the act, he further called on the authorities to institute measures to maintain the quality of the pitch even if they wish to rent it for concerts.
He referenced pitches in Europe and abroad where concerts are being held with full safety and protection of the quality of the pitch.
“There are certain things they can do and it will not affect the grass. They have to put certain things on the pitch that even when you do a show and nothing will happen. They do lot of shows on pitch in Europe, Beyonce and all. Its something different. They can finish the show and nothing happened. They cover the whole pitch but this one we are not doing that and it is affecting the game as well,” Inkoom stated.
