Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has joined the national team camp, completing the roster of 26 players named by coach Otto Addo ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR).
The 29-year-old was the only absentee as of Saturday, having stayed back to be assessed by his club Fenerbahce following an arm injury. Fortunately, Djiku has been cleared to play, providing a significant boost to Coach Otto Addo’s squad.
Djiku missed the first two days of training due to the injury, but he will now join the rest of the squad for their training session at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday. This session is part of the build-up to the crucial qualifiers.
Since making his debut in October 2020, the former Strasbourg player has been a key part of the team, making 27 appearances and scoring two goals for Ghana. His presence will be vital as the team prepare for the upcoming matches.
The Black Stars will train for a few more days at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon before traveling to Bamako, Mali, next week for the clash on June 6. They will return to face the Central African Republic on June 10 in Kumasi. Ghana, currently fourth in Group I of the CAF World Cup qualifiers, trails Comoros, Mali, and Madagascar. The team aims to turn things around with strong performances in the upcoming fixtures.
With their World Cup qualifying hopes on the line, the Black Stars are keen to secure victories in both matches to improve their standings and boost their chances of making it to the 2026 World Cup. The next few days will be crucial as Ghana’s national team aims to get back to winning ways and climb up the group standings.
