Ghanaian rapper, Strongman has shared his opinion on the current trend of rappers switching to singing.
The trend of rap music ‘fading away’ has garnered the attention of some Ghanaian musicians including rapper EL and YPee who have both recently lamented that rap music is not lucrative
However, Strongman believes that this rather proves how multi-talented some artistes are.
He said as artistes, it is prudent to identify what works best for you and how to win in the industry.
“If he chooses to switch, it is his point of view and he understands the game better. I cannot tell people you don’t need to switch and all that. Its even cool because it shows their versatility and stuff so fas as it is putting food on the table,” he told 3Xtra’s Kwaku King.
According to him, unlike the others, rap music is really “paying him” and he cannot switch to singing anytime soon.
However, Strongman did not rule out any possibility about him switching to singing stressing that as far as he is human, he must adapt to the trend when it becomes necessary.
Also, rapper EL in an interview last month explained that rap music is ‘fading away’ due to the low attention span for rap music is the reason rappers are switching to singing.
He said music consumers now prefer fast-paced, catchy music over wordy lyrics.
“The market we are in now, the attention span is very, very, very small. In my opinion nobody really has the time to listen to a lot of content, a lot of words, within the song.
I believe that in this ecosystem in which we are in right now, people just want to have fun. A lot of people just want to listen to a catchy song, catchy lyrics, and a danceable tune,” he stated during an interview on Hitz FM.
