French forward Kylian Mbappe secured his seventh league title as Paris St-Germain secured their third consecutive Ligue 1 trophy on Sunday.
The triumph was confirmed after second-placed Monaco suffered a 3-2 defeat against Lyon.
With just three games remaining, PSG holds a commanding 12-point lead at the top of the table, making them unassailable in the title race.
The decisive goal came from Malick Fofana, who scored late on to seal the victory for Lyon. PSG had the opportunity to seal the title themselves on Saturday but were held to a draw by relegation-threatened Le Havre.
This marks PSG’s 12th Ligue 1 title and their 10th in the past 12 seasons, further solidifying their dominance in French football.
While PSG celebrate their collective accomplishment, star forward Kylian Mbappe continues to shine individually. Leading the Ligue 1 scorers chart with 26 goals, Mbappe’s imminent departure in the summer looms large.
This victory marks Mbappe’s sixth Ligue 1 title with PSG, adding to the one he won during his time at Monaco in the 2016/17 season.
With this triumph, PSG extends their record to a remarkable 12th Ligue 1 title, cementing their status as the dominant force in French football. The closest behind the champions are Saint-Étienne who have 10 titles with their last triumph happening 43 years ago.
Manager Luis Enrique’s focus will now shift to winning the club’s first Champions League trophy. PSG are set to face Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals next month, with hopes of adding European success to their domestic achievements.
