Popular Nigerian Afrobeat artiste, Joeboy has disclosed that he collaborates with Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur because of a personal connection.
The two have so far worked together on two songs: “Door,” which Joeboy featured Kwesi Arthur, and “Baajo,” which the Ghanaian rapper featured Joeboy.
Speaking in an interview with Chrystal Kwame-Aryee on 3FM Drive on April 4, the ‘Alcohol’ stated that he exclusively works with artists with whom he is personally acquainted.
“It wasn’t even an intentional thing. So for me, I like to create music with people that I connect with on a personal level, like, almost all, like, even when I and Kwesi Arthur did ‘Baadjo’, he’s my kind of person, we could have conversations for hours without having anything major to talk about,” he said.
Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus popularly known as Joeboy stressed the need of having a personal relationship with the artists he works with.
“It is hard for me to come across people like that in the music industry. Almost everybody I have a song with, even till now are people that I can connect with on a personal level. These are people that I talk to on a regular,” he added.
Joeboy also highlighted some benefits that new media (social media) has brought to the music industry.
He recalled how he was discovered by Mr. Eazi through social media stressing that the platform has broken some barriers in the music industry.
“I feel like social media has broken the dodge, you know like at first there used to be gatekeepers in the industry that if this person does not accept or acknowledge you, you are not going to make it.
“Now all of a sudden you can just get into the industry by just posting a cover or a song of yourself singing randomly on your bed and next thing is it is getting millions of views and everybody wants to work with you and connect with you,” he explained.
