A medical practitioner at the University of Ghana Medical Centre, Doctor Ameena Haruun has rendered an unqualified apology for her unauthorised disclosure of the health status of musician Kuami Eugene.
The musician had been admitted at the facility where Doctor Ameena, a psychologist works after he was involved in a car crash last Sunday, March 17.
However, Doctor Haruun on Monday, few hours after the musician was admitted at the hospital posted on social media the health status and condition of the famous musician.
Her Twitter post which has now been deleted read, “Kuami Eugene is here at the hospital with us, and it ain’t looking good. Kindly send him a prayer.”
Dr. Ameena’s act breached the patient-confidentiality protocols and has since apologised for her actions.
She has also accepted a potential punishment of three months suspension from duty expressing remorse about her actions.
“I am writing to express my sincere apology for the “violation of code of ethics” I made on [Monday 18th March, 2024]. I am aware that my actions not only caused inconvenience but also impacted the team’s overall performance. I take full responsibility for my actions and understand the seriousness of the matter.
“I am highly regretful of the inconveniences caused to the Patient due to my violation of our “Code Of Ethics”. Mistakes are made for lessons to be learnt, henceforth, will not repeat such mistake in the future and am trying my best to solve this as soon as possible.
“I accept the consequences of both my license being suspended for Three months, and will gladly serve my punishment by staying away from any Hospital facility unless been called to,” she said in her apology letter to the public.
