Black Princesses coach Yusif Basigi says his team isn’t under pressure to win gold in the Women’s football of the 2023 African Games as they gear up to face Nigeria in the final.
Having edged Senegal in the semifinals, the Ghana U-20 female side are within touching distance of a gold medal. However, Nigeria stand in their way.
Basigi, speaking ahead of the crucial game admitted the strength of his opponents but emphasised that they are ready to match them without any pressure.
“We are not under pressure going into this game. Whether they have conceded or not, we will go all out in the final and I believe it will be a tough match. Together with our fans at the stadium to support us, we will overcome.”
The highly anticipated clash is a replay of the WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup in Kumasi last year which saw Ghana beat their counterparts on penalties.
The coach is confident the team will maintain their momentum and repeat the triumph on Thursday evening at the Cape Coast stadium.
“Nigeria has scored many goals but it depends on who you’re playing against. It happened in the WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup when they didn’t concede so the final will determine.”
Going into the final, Ghana boasts three wins and one draw in the tournament while Nigeria have equally impressed by winning all of their matches.
The match kicks off at 8:pm local time.
