The Western Region police have stepped up their search for an allegedly fraudulent medical doctor who has been working at Takoradi Government Hospital, also known as The European Hospital.
The Facebook page of prominent radio journalist FM Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson revealed that the bogus doctor had also committed theft from patients being admitted to the facility.
According to reports, the suspect, whose name has only been disclosed as Jude, applied for a Junior Doctor internship at the hospital using a falsified attachment letter from the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS).
It is becoming clear that the suspect assisted some of the senior medical doctors when he was employed as an intern at the hospital.
After working with the institution for a few days, he devised a plan to steal from sick patients who were being admitted.
According to sources, he took all of the patients’ cell phones when they were admitted under the pretext that he was protecting them from thieves.
He took their phones and informed them that the phones would be kept safe for them because criminals had been targeting hospital patients.
Additionally, he persuaded them to unlock their phones because they might receive an urgent call, according to our source.
While the suspect had the unlocked phones, he began speaking with the patients’ close friends and relatives and asked they provide money for urgent care.
“He pretended to be the patients while using their phones to communicate with their connections about the need for financial assistance for medical care.
Some of the people he contacted sent him an undisclosed sum of money since they believed they were conversing with the phone’s original owners, the sources continued.
One of the patients at the hospital was a Nigerian woman domiciled in Takoradi and has been operating a chop bar business.
With this information in mind, the suspect went for the services of a Nigerian prostitute at Vienna City in Takoradi and had sex with her; he later used an unsuspecting sex worker to collect money from her Nigerian contacts.
“I was in Vienna on Wednesday when the suspect walked towards me and asked how much I would charge for a night.
I told him he would pay GHc600 but he asked for a reduction and we all agreed on GHC 500.
He then opted to go to my place which I obliged because I would take my money afterwards.
We had a shower and did whatever we had to do.
In the morning, he asked that I give him my mobile money registered number because someone would be sending money to him.
He was holding four phones and calls started coming in from Nigeria, he asked me to speak to them in my language”, she indicated. The prostitute, Bella (not her real name) indicated when we visited her at her lodge.
The suspect was staying at the Holy Hill Assemblies of God Church’s mission house at Mankessim White House while in Takoradi.
Since then, administrators of the Takoradi Government Hospital have informed the Takoradi Central Police Station of the incident for speedy resolution.
Since then, the suspect has been listed as wanted, and all of the allegedly stolen medical supplies from the hospital have been found.
Since then, a large number of locals from Takoradi’s Nigerian population have verified transferring money to the fictitious Dr. Jude.
