Godfred Atuahene’s 50th-minute strike proved decisive as Dreams FC secured a crucial victory over Club Africain on Sunday evening, propelling them to the top of Group C in the CAF Confederations Cup.
The Still Believe lads entered the match with high hopes, seeking revenge against their opponents who had handed them their only defeat in the ongoing campaign.
Despite a goalless first half, Atuahene’s well-timed goal five minutes into the second half put Dreams FC in the lead in the thrilling encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The win positions Dreams FC at the summit of Group C, drawing them closer to a coveted spot in the quarter-finals. However, Group C remains highly competitive, with Rivers and Club Africain still in contention for a spot in the next stage. Dreams FC must now secure at least a draw in Nigeria to ensure qualification.
Currently, the Ghanaian side leads Group C with 12 points, followed by Club Africain in second place with nine points. Rivers United, after a victory over Academica, also has nine points.
Dreams FC’s journey so far in the CAF Confederations Cup has been impressive. The team, under the guidance of coach Karim Zito, has displayed resilience and quality. After winning the Ghana FA Cup, they navigated through the preliminary stage with a 3-2 aggregate win over Milo FC from Guinea and a similar scoreline against FC Kallon from Liberia, earning them a spot in the group stage.
Despite it being their debut season in the competition, Dreams FC has shown they are contenders for success, leaving fans hopeful about the team’s potential in the CAF Confederations Cup.
