The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has disclosed that students of Wesley Girls Senior High School, under the free SHS policy, will receive a brand new tablet each by April this year to facilitate teaching and learning.
According to the minister, the government anticipates distributing over 1.4 million tablets to free SHS students.
Dr. Osei Adutwum made the revelation while speaking at the speech and prize-giving day of the Wesley Girls’ Senior High School. He indicated that the distribution will take place in the next two months.
“I am happy to tell you that within the next two months, every single student in this school will have a tablet computer. We are building a learning management system, so all teachers are going to be trained, and you will do your homework and class activities online.
“So, if you have support, it should be getting more smart boards so that it will be a 360-degree smart, technology-driven environment,” Dr. Adutwum stated.
According to Dr. Osei Adutwum, this is an effort by the government to allow students to participate in online homework assignments and class activities. He also revealed that the implementation of a learning management system and teacher training are in the offing.
The minister also emphasised the importance of creating a technology-driven environment.
The distribution of tablets is expected to contribute to a more advanced and interactive educational experience for students in senior high schools.
