In a move that has stirred controversy, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has ordered the suspension of salary payments for 800 teachers in the Northern Region. This decision comes as a result of the OSP’s identification of infractions within the teaching sector, prompting investigations into the matter.
The directive, however, has sparked immediate backlash from the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT).
Thomas Musah Tanko, the General Secretary of GNAT, exclusively disclosed to our labor correspondent Daniel Opoku that GNAT vehemently disagrees with the OSP’s decision.
Tanko emphasized that the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the OSP have been given a strict ultimatum of five working days to rectify the situation by ensuring the prompt payment of the suspended salaries. Failure to comply, Tanko warned, could result in widespread agitation from the teaching community.
