The management team of renowned Dancehall artist Stonebwoy has contradicted assertions made by the National Sports Authority (NSA) regarding the payment for the use of the Accra Sports Stadium.
In response to claims by NSA Director General Prof. Peter Twumasi that Stonebwoy paid GH₵70,000 for his 5th Dimension Concert in December 2023, Stonebwoy’s manager, Chief Abiola, has clarified that the amount paid exceeded GH₵70,000.
Speaking on Hitz FM, Chief Abiola emphasized the contractual nature of the matter and refrained from divulging specific details, citing ongoing negotiations and sensitivity surrounding the issue. He asserted his involvement in leading negotiations and payment for the stadium on behalf of Stonebwoy.
The discrepancy in payment amounts has sparked public interest, especially amidst concerns over the rental of the stadium for events amid perceived safety risks. The NSA’s appearance before the Public Accounts Committee has drawn criticism, particularly regarding discrepancies in financial accounts provided by Prof. Peter Twumasi.
The decision to rent out the Accra Sports Stadium for non-sporting events, despite its closure for football activities, has raised eyebrows. Prof. Twumasi defended this decision during questioning, citing prior communication with stakeholders and the need to generate revenue to cover expenses.
As the debate unfolds, attention remains focused on the conflicting accounts and the broader implications for transparency and accountability within the NSA.
