In a significant move towards supporting the construction of the first purely Islamic hospital in Ghana, the Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Samira Bawumia, has donated One Thousand (1000) bags of cement.
The hospital, located in Techiman, the Bono East Regional capital, aims to adhere to Islamic beliefs and doctrines in healthcare practices.
Islamic teachings emphasize gender-specific healthcare, with male health workers treating male patients, and females attending to patients of the same gender. The existing healthcare facilities in the country often fall short of accommodating these principles.
Consequently, the Islamic Mission Secretariat has undertaken the initiative to construct a hospital tailored to meet the specific needs of the Muslim community.
The generous donation of 1000 bags of cement was presented by Madam Harriet Kyeremateng Oppong, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Nkoranza South Constituency. In addition to the cement contribution, she personally added three (3) trips of sand. This donation is in fulfillment of a pledge made by Mrs. Samira Bawumiah during the Islamic Mission Secretariat Women Wing’s annual conference held at Techiman Krobo in August 2022.
Speaking on behalf of Hajia Samira Bawumiah, Harriet Kyeremateng Oppong highlighted the commitment of the Second Lady to supporting projects that align with the welfare and values of the Muslim community.
The National President of Islamic Mission Secretariat, Sheikh Harun Ahmed Appau, expressed delight at having a Muslim Presidential Candidate for the first time. He extended gratitude to Alhaji Dr. Bawumiah and assured that the Islamic community would remember him in their prayers.
Prominent figures from the Bono East NPP, including Mr. Ibrahim Bukari Baba, also known as “IB The Game Changer,” and the Regional Secretary Mr. David Yaw Boakye, voiced their appreciation for the generous donation.
Hajia Mariam Nketiah Sulemana, the Secretary of the National Women’s Wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat, took the opportunity to encourage Ghanaians to consider voting for women contesting in the upcoming elections.
