In a recent update, Seji Saji Amedonu, the Deputy Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), has emphasized that the ongoing efforts to address the aftermath of the Akosombo Dam Spillage are far from concluding.
According to Amedonu, the affected areas continue to grapple with the repercussions, with over 2000 people still residing in camps due to the spillage. One notable concern highlighted is the impact on students who find themselves stranded, facing challenges in commuting to schools situated at a distance.
Acknowledging the predicament faced by teachers affected by the spillages, Amedonu mentioned that the Education Minister has assured collaborative efforts with the Regional and Districts Directorate to address these issues.
Amedonu further disclosed that NADMO has strategically stockpiled relief items in various locations, distributing them weekly to those affected by the spillage. Additionally, a program is in place to support farmers in the upcoming crop season, aiming to reduce dependence solely on philanthropic efforts. The government is also set to contribute financial assistance to alleviate the ongoing challenges faced by the affected communities.
