The Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM), Western North Regional chapter, has urged the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Dan Botwe, to dissolve existing assemblies and address the needs of outgoing members before swearing in the newly elected ones on February 6.
In an interview with Fish FM’s morning show host, Aduanaba Abena Saah, Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank, the Regional President of GAAM, emphasized the necessity of dissolving old assemblies before the district-level elections on December 19, 2023.
Despite the delay, he urged the government to act promptly before inaugurating the newly elected members.
Expressing concerns about the pending ex-gratia for outgoing assembly members, Mr. Frank highlighted the need for the government to establish a fair ceiling for metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies.
He specifically pointed out that the district assembly in his region owed a considerable amount to its members.
“We, as assembly members, are giving the minister a one-week ultimatum to terminate the old assemblies. In consultation with our lawyers, we will decide whether to prevent the swearing-in or not,” he declared.
